20-somethings by a 20-something

There are many reasons why many 20-somethings are staying home longer but the author seems to ignore the question as to why it is wrong for young adults to continue living with their parents past 18. The idea of leaving home at 18, parents packing their child's bags after graduation, or parents charging their children rent is unthinkable in many cultures. The perpetuation of this idea (change idea to another word) is not reflective of the multicultural identity of the United States.

For that matter, what is wrong with living with your parents or in-laws after marriage?

Maybe we love our parents and see that our lives are dependent on everything that they have done for us. We want to and take pleasure in taking care of our parents and enjoy their company.
Likewise our parents enjoy our company and do not wish for us to move out or too far out of reach. It is considered absurd to abandon our families for pursuits of independence which is equated with selfishness in many cultures. We revere our elders and want to please them but we understand that we are able to make our own decisions.

Living with our parents after high school gives us more freedom to finish college, establish a career, save for a home or car, and create a greater foundation for our future.

We need to dispel this idea of launching young people into adulthood without help. This is a time to unite as families.

it hurts even in French.

France Gall

Quand ils sont longs les jours de pluie
Quand je suis seule quand je m'ennuie
Que dans un rythme monotone
Au fond d moi ton nom résonne

Il me reste cet air-là
Qui vient me parler de toi
Car en chantant cet air-là
Je ne peux penser qu'à toi
